Dragon Ball Daima finale marks the end of Akira Toriyama’s era, but hints at more to come

twutterThe legendary manga creator Akira Toriyama, who passed away on March 1, 2024, left behind a legacy that continues to captivate fans worldwide. His final known project, Dragon Ball Daima, officially came to an end on February 28, 2025, making the conclusion even more emotional as it coincided with his first death anniversary.
Dragon Ball Daima was the last Dragon Ball series that Toriyama worked on before his passing due to acute subdural hematoma. As the show wrapped up in Japan at midnight on Fuji TV, it marked the closing of an era for fans of the beloved franchise.
Executive producer Akio Iyoku, as reported by CBR.com, confirmed that Toriyama was deeply involved in the creation of Daima, shaping the entire story. “He designed nearly all the characters—from those in the tavern to the various monsters appearing throughout the Demon Realm,” Iyoku stated. “Even the mechanical designs, like the aircraft, are his work.”
Dragon Ball Daima first aired in October 2024, and while no official plans have been announced for future Dragon Ball projects, fans remain hopeful. In a recent interview, Iyoku assured that discussions are ongoing regarding the franchise’s future, even in Toriyama’s absence. He hinted that the series is expected to continue for “decades to come,” ensuring that the Dragon Ball universe still has more stories to tell.
The final episode of Dragon Ball Daima left room for more possibilities, especially with an intriguing post-credits scene. Goku and the Z-Fighters stopped at a shop in the Demon Realm to buy more Revive Bugs before heading back to Earth. However, they stumbled upon something far more mysterious—an item called the “Evil Third Eyes.”
The shopkeeper explained that these rare artifacts grant immense power when placed on the forehead. “I had three of them, but they’re suspicious and expensive, so I only managed to sell one long ago,” he told them, offering a discount on the remaining ones.
This revelation tied back to the explosive battle between Goku and Gomah, where Goku had unleashed his Super Saiyan 4 form to defeat the villain. Kuu had extracted the Third Eye from Gomah, and Glorio destroyed it. However, the post-credits scene confirmed that two more Evil Third Eyes still exist, leaving fans wondering what danger they might pose in the future.
All 20 episodes of Dragon Ball Daima are now available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The finale, titled “Maximum,” will be released on Netflix on March 3, 2025.
While Daima may have been Toriyama’s final work, the Dragon Ball universe remains full of potential, with fans eager to see what comes next.
