After a three-month break, fans of 9-1-1 are eagerly waiting for the hit ABC first responder drama to return. Many fans were hoping to see a new episode on Thursday, February 27, 2025, but ABC has scheduled a new episode of Shifting Gears instead. However, the good news is that 9-1-1 will officially return on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
The next episode, titled “Sob Stories,” will follow the 118 crew as they respond to a fire at an animal shelter, racing against time to save the animals inside. Meanwhile, Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) will take a disturbing 9-1-1 call that leads her down a dangerous path.
According to showrunner Tim Minear, the midseason return is inspired by a real-life case—the infamous 1980 Weepy-Voiced Killer. Minear hinted that Maddie’s call will reveal a chilling truth: the caller is not only responsible for a past murder but is also planning to kill again.
